Principal activities of FSRI State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology VECTOR involve basic and applied research in the areas of epidemiology, virology, and biotechnology to provide sanitary-and-epidemiologic welfare of the population of the Russian Federation. VECTOR’s basic research is focused on problem solving in the field of infectious disease control. Research, conducted in the areas of molecular epidemiology of virus infections, the structure and function of viral genomes, pathogenesis mechanisms of infectious diseases, including research into the relationship between the host’s genetic characteristics, those of the viral agent and characteristics of the infection process, is aimed at achieving practical results in terms of accomplishing VECTOR’s primary mission, which is providing scientific and practical support for countering global biological threats.
