Short description

The product thanks its origin to the perennial research made by the Biochemistry and Biotechnology Laboratory of the Institute of Biology Komi SC UB RAS. The works allowed for selection plant species with high contents of phytoecdysteroids (Serratula coronata, Silene, etc.), development industrial plantations of ecdysteroid-containing plants (Serratula coronata) and a production technology of the ecdysteroid-containing substance “Serpisten”. On the basis of pharmacology tests made at the Institute of Biology and the Close Corporation “Adaptogen” (Sankt-Petersburg) the new preparation was found to have a better antiischemic effect compared to the popular preparation “Atorvastatin” (Germany). Additionally, the “Serpisten” substance was proven to have expressed anabolic, actoprotective, antidiabetic, hypolipidemic, radioprotective, and hemoprotective effects. These effects and a low toxicity rate of preparation are prospecting for production an active food additive of local crude drug in Komi Republic. The additive could be used in geriatrics, as an adaptogen for people living in the North for a long time, working under extra physical loads and suffering other unfavorable factors.

Information about analogues

Before the USSR dissolution, the Production Association “UzFarm” (Tashkent city) produced the tonic “Ecdysten” which contained purified 20-hydroxyecdysone from Rhaponticum carthamoides roots. In contrast to Ecdysten, Serpisten is produced of Serratula coronata leaves which contain much more ecdysteroids than Rhaponticum carthamoides roots. The next important difference is that Serpisten contains not only 20-hydroxyecdysone but also the other ecdysteroid, namely inocosterone responsible for more expressed antioxidative and anabolic effects. The production necessity of ecdysteroid-containing preparation in Russia exists because Ecdysten is now produced abroad.

Composition and the production method of ecdysteroid-containing Serpisten substance is patented. The Serpisten substance has a trademark.

The Serpisten dietary supplement inserts specific actoprotective (increases physical efficiency rate), anabolic, antidiabetic, antiischemic, wound and burn healing, radioprotective, and antioxidative effects.
