3, Shosse Podbelskogo, Pushkin, Saint-Petersburg, 196608, Russia Activity branch/productsThe State All Russia Research Institute for Agricultural Microbiology of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences is the center of carrying out and coordination of fundamental and applied researches in the field of agricultural microbiology. Iinstitute is based on the unique scientific school of agricultural microbiologists which was generated for 110 years of existence of this field in Russia. Scientists of institute provide a high level of basic researches and their fast utilization in the agricultural practice. Now research of institute is focused on studying the role of microorganisms in the agrolandscapes with isolation of the most important types of microorganisms, study of their functions, further selection and introduction into the environment with the aim to regulate the microbiological processes in the oil. Institute scientists has been achieved evident progress in the field of research and practical use of rhizosphere microorganisms including nodule bacteria. ARRIAM has been collected the largest culture collection of nodule bacteria in Russia. The practical approach for their use for inoculation of legume crops in the country is permanently improving. New generation of bacterial fertilizers on the basis of associative nitrogen-fixing rhizobacteria from genera Azospirillum, Agrobacterium, Arthrobacter, Pseudomonas, Bacillus has been developed. Firstly these bacteria were isolated as able to fix nitrogen on the roots of non-leguminous plants. However in further research it was revealed that they possess a range of properties beneficial fort the plants. The list of associative rhizobacteria is permanently widen. ARRIAM scientists considerably contributed in molecular genetic research of integral processes in rhizosphere, study the bacterial and plant genes controlling symbiosis. Soil monitoring and ecology of soil microorganisms, methods of xenobiotics detixication, development of technologies providing maximal productivity of soil microflora in agrophytocenosis, development of new generation of organic fertilizers based on the livestock dung—are the main subject of research in the Institute. Improving of microbiological methods for pests control, study of practical use of bacteria for forage preparation are among main research directions in the institute. International collaboration is one of the main institute activities, based on joint research under the grants of INTAS, Copernicus, NWO, CRDF, etc., with profile laboratories of such countries as the Netherlands, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, South Korea, Poland, the Great Britain, Australia, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Japan, the republic of South Africa. Innovative companies “BISOLBI-INTER”, “BIOTROPH”, “ECOS” producing microbial preparations for agriculture based on institute innovative developments are successfully working and developing.
